Who We Are

Habitat for Humanity of McHenry County (HFHMC) was founded in January 1994 with the mission of “uniting the community with people in need to provide the life-changing opportunity to purchase and own quality, affordable homes.” In its first 18 months, while building the systems of governance and operations for the new nonprofit organization, the volunteer-driven effort constructed three homes. By the time of its 25th anniversary in 2019, HFHMC will have served more than 300 partner families in McHenry County, Illinois and raised more than $1 million to also help roughly 300 families outside the United States move from substandard housing to safe, decent, and affordable homes.

What We Do

Since 1994, Habitat McHenry has provided affordable housing services to 1 of every 250 eligible County households.  Since 2014, Habitat McHenry has taken a total of 29 derelict homes from neighborhoods across McHenry County; rehabilitating and returning them to the tax rolls while creating affordable housing opportunities for low income residents.
